What is NeuroFit?

NeuroFit is an exercise recovery program for individuals with neurological conditions that incorporates innovative programming and advanced technology to empower you to achieve your fitness and recovery goals. We implement evidence-based practices and an individualized approach to help each client improve function in the upper and lower extremities, strength, conditioning, balance, and overall quality of life. Exercise, no matter physical capability, is in reach for everyone at NeuroFit.

Who is a good candidate for NeuroFit?

  • Individuals who have experienced a neurological condition, including spinal cord injuries, strokes, traumatic brain injuries, Parkinson’s disease, and muscular dystrophy who are looking to improve their health, quality of life, and rehabilitate their condition
  • Those who require advanced technology to promote bone and cardiovascular health, manage spasticity and tone, and improve blood and gastrointestinal (GI) tract flow to reduce risk of future comorbidities 
  • Individuals who wish to participate in NeuroFit concurrently with therapy to:
    • Complement an intensive plan of care
    • Increase time utilizing advanced technology
    • Increase visits due to the volume of therapy visits covered by insurance 
  • Those who have been discharged from therapy due to any of the following reasons, NeuroFit can help bridge the gap with exercise to improve outcomes allowing for return to therapy:
    • Functional plateau 
    • Maximum insurance coverage has been met for the year 
    • Unable to meet physiological requirements to utilize advance technology  
  • Therapy graduates who are looking for maintenance or progression through continued exercise
  • Anyone living with complex needs and abilities who requires assistance to exercise, but does not require advanced technology interventions   
  • Individuals who require total to moderate assist with functional mobility and therapeutic exercises
  • Those who benefit from guidance and positive motivation to become physically active and develop healthy habits

How is NeuroFit different from other neuro rehab clinics?

  • Our team members are certified in advanced technology and possess countless hours of training and hands-on experience with neuro clients
  • Clients have access to advanced technology that is not commonly used by fitness professionals
  • Aquatic sessions are available in our therapeutic pool through our NeuroFit Aquatics program* (*Please Note: Our Bon Air pool is temporarily undergoing exciting renovations until May 2025!)
  • We collaborate with referring providers to ensure consistency in each client’s plan of care
  • Sessions range from one to two hours
  • We offer financial assistance to those who qualify

What are the requirements to participate in NeuroFit?

  • Must be able to breathe without the assistance of a ventilator (unless otherwise determined during your evaluation) 
  • Must not have any open sores or pressure wounds 
  • Must be able to perform car transfers without the presence of an exercise physiologist
  • Must be able to cognitively process directions 
  • Must complete an evaluation with a certified exercise physiologist
  • Must provide medical clearance from a physician
  • Must complete a physical therapy evaluation through Sheltering Arms Institute before using robotic devices such as the Lokomat and exoskeletons 
  • May be required to perform a bone density scan

Where is NeuroFit located?

NeuroFit is offered at our Bon Air, Hanover, and Laburnum locations.
NeuroFit Aquatics* is offered only at our Bon Air location. (*Please Note: Our Bon Air pool is temporarily undergoing exciting renovations until May 2025!)
