Fitness Team Lead

Abbey is the fitness team lead who has been with Sheltering Arms since February 2019. She received her master’s degree in health and movement science from Virginia Commonwealth University after completing her bachelor’s degree in health sciences at James Madison University. Abbey is a certified exercise physiologist through the American College of Sports Medicine and has been working with individuals with chronic disease and special populations for several years. She is most passionate about developing exercise programs to improve health and disease status, promote function and independence, and increase overall quality of life for individuals living with disabilities. Abbey is a clinical researcher, having presented “Implementing Standardized Outcome Measures in Sheltering Arms Medical and Adaptive Fitness Programs” (2025) at the Clinical Exercise Physiology Association annual research conference and the 4th annual SAI Research Symposium. She presented “The impact of PowerEx and incidence of physical therapy readmission – a descriptive study” (2023) at the 2nd annual SAI Research Symposium.
