Our Concussion Treatment Program

At Sheltering Arms, we are dedicated to the comprehensive management and treatment of your concussion from pre-injury evaluations all the way through treatment and complete rehabilitation. Our highly trained specialists and innovative concussion therapy technologies will quickly lead you down the road to recovery.

Pre-Injury Baseline Testing

During this testing phase, we determine our patient’s normal levels of balance and brain functioning. We examine several domains of brain function that are typically affected following a concussion.

Post-Injury Evaluation and Treatment

Due to the complexity of concussions, which can result in both physical and cognitive issues, our expert clinicians work together to create a customized treatment plan for each individual.

Multi-Disciplinary Concussion Treatment Processes
  • Vestibular Concussion Treatment – Our physical therapists use their orthopedic and neuro vestibular expertise to address any musculoskeletal injuries or issues with balance, dizziness, and headaches.
  • ImPACT Testing – Our team of medical psychologists help provide recommendations for returning to school or work through ImPACT testing. They also help build a plan to manage anxiety and stress when dealing with post-concussion syndrome.
  • Speech Evaluation and Treatment – Our speech-language pathologists address difficulty with attention, memory, concentration, and organization.
  • Medication Management – Our physicians evaluate our patients first hand, providing thorough evaluation and medical insight. Any sleep disruption, chronic headaches, and musculoskeletal injuries will be managed when appropriate.
Sheltering Arms Concussion Treatment Goals
  1. Return to Learn – To ensure a successful integration back to school and learning!
  2. Return to Play – To build a recovery plan tailored to each individual’s sport or activity!
  3. Return to Work – To create a safe transition back to work!
