Women's Health

Urinary incontinence can occur as a result of weakened muscles due to childbirth or aging, after abdominal surgeries, or as part of a disease process, such as multiple sclerosis or Parkinson’s disease. Although people sometimes have difficulty seeking treatment, urinary incontinence is a common problem that can be treated by a trained physical therapist.

Sheltering Arms offers services to help you with stress, urge or mixed urinary incontinence. Patients are typically seen for 8-10 visits and each session is strictly one-on-one time with the physical therapist to address your specific issues and design the best treatment plan.

Treatment may include one or more of the following:

  • EMG/biofeedback
  • therapeutic exercise
  • Kegel exercises
  • behavior modification
  • diet modification
  • bladder retraining
  • home exercise program

Sheltering Arms physicians and physical therapists also specialize in helping women with pain related to pregnancy. If you are experiencing pain in your back, groin, hands, arms or legs during or after pregnancy, it could be the result of a variety of factors, including increasing hormone levels, or changing posture due to the extra physical burden on your body. Your pregnancy is an exciting time, not to be overshadowed by pain and discomfort!
