Cole Sydnor, a Mechanicsville resident and Atlee High School alumnus, has come a long way since sustaining a spinal cord injury in 2011. He has been a participant in the Sheltering Arms NeuroFit program since it opened in May 2012 and just completed his freshman year at the University of Richmond.
Cole was a recipient of the “Swim with Mike” scholarship, which is set up to help with the cost of advanced education for athletes who have suffered life-altering accidents or illnesses. Learn more at https://swimwithmike.org
To give back to the scholarship fund, Cole and his family are planning a “Roll with Cole Sport-a-Thon” on Saturday, August 9, 2014
. Individuals/teams can register for a variety of events, including a 5K, mixed doubles tennis, 3 vs 3 basketball, 4 vs 4 sand volleyball, swimming, field events and more. There will also be music, food and other fun activities.
Three large Hanover County neighborhoods, Kings Charter, Ashcreek and Milestone, will host events, while Sheltering Arms, Sports Backers and Can Do Specialty Printing have signed on as sponsors. The day is sure to be both fun and inspirational. With the buzz already going throughout the community, a great showing is anticipated as well!
