October 2010: Two area physical therapy leaders have joined to offer expert care in
helping people overcome pain and immobility. Sheltering Arms Physical Rehabilitation Centers have acquired the established practice of PT Works, LLC in Richmond�s far West End.   Click here to view our press release. 

October 2010: On October 17, 2010, Sheltering Arms will hold its 18th annual Different Strokes Golf Extravaganza to raise money for the purchase of an innovative new tool for its Adaptive Golf Program.    Click here to view our press release.   

September 2010: Sheltering Arms is pleased to receive Modern Healthcare�s Best Places to Work in Healthcare for 2010. Sheltering Arms is honored to be one of only two organizations achieving this award in Virginia. The results will be published in a supplementary Modern Healthcare issue on October 25th. March 2010: Sheltering Arms works closely with other healthcare organizations to provide quality rehabilitation care to patients in a variety of settings. Two of these alliances were mentioned in the business section of the March 22nd and March 29th issues of the Richmond Times-Dispatch.

January 2010:  On Thursday, January 21st, The Sheltering Arms Hospital received a Disease-Specific Care Certification in Stroke Rehabilitation through The Joint Commission.  This certification, designated by The Joint Commission's Gold Seal of ApprovalTM, signifies that our stroke rehabilitation program complies with the highest national standards for safety and quality of care, and reinforces our organization's dedication to clinical excellence.

January 2010:  Sheltering Arms Director of Outpatient Therapy Services, Jose' Vivaldi, MS OTR/L, was interviewed on WRVA radio with tips to avoid slipping and falling during the treacherous winter weather.  Click here for a list of additional tips from the American Occupational Therapy Association.

January 2010: On January 4th, Sheltering Arms Medical Director, Dr. Hillary Hawkins, appeared on the �Medical Minute� on WRIC Channel 8 during the station�s 6 p.m. newscast.  She gave some great information on osteoporosis and bone fractures.  Check out the clip on the Sheltering Arms blog!

October 2009: While this season's H1N1 outbreak has led area hospitals to take drastic, yet proactive measures to keep patients safe, Sheltering Arms has come up with a creative solution to allow patients to continue to have the benefit of visitation with family members.  Knowing that the care and support of loved ones are catalysts in helping patients in the recovery process, Sheltering Arms has made webcams available at both hospitals.  WRIC featured this use of technology on their evening news on October 26, 2009.  Also, take a look at a picture of the webcam in use, which was featured recently in the Richmond Times-Dispatch.

September 2009: Sheltering Arms hosted the third annual A Celebration of the Power to Overcome on Wednesday, September 23, 2009.  Once again, Sheltering Arms collaborated with Governor Timothy M. Kaine to proclaim the third week in September Rehabilitation Awareness Week in the Commonwealth of Virginia.  To show their support, Secretary of the Commonwealth Katherine Hanley, Attorney General Bill Mims, Commissioner of the Department of Rehabilitative Services James Rothrock, and many other key leaders and supporters attended this year's event.  Bill Bevins, one of Richmond's most popular local celebrities, served as emcee.  Visit the Sheltering Arms blog and look for 'Pictures from the P2O Gala' for a slideshow from this exciting celebration. 

September 2009: Throughout the month of September, Sheltering Arms had the unique opportunity to air a documentary on all three major local network affiliates.  The documentary typified the Sheltering Arms mission by featuring the moving successes of three paitents who found the Power to Overcome illness and injury.  Check out the video page on this site for a promo of the documentary. 

September 2009:  Jamaal Williams, a former Virginia Union University football player, suffered a massive stroke at the age of 28. On Sept. 15, 2009, Jamaal and his mother, Daisy, appeared on WTVR TV's "Virginia This Morning" program to talk about his physical therapy and rehabilitation at Sheltering Arms. Jamaal is one of three subjects of a documentary airing this month about Sheltering Arms patients.

Spring 2009:  Sheltering Arms was featured in Work Magazine regarding our partnership with Packet 360, provider of the wireless phones used by our nurses.  They highlighted our �quiet hospital� environment, one of the many attributes of Sheltering Arms.  Read the article.

February 2009:  The Richmond Times-Dispatch highlighted Sheltering Arms' use of "smart devices" to help patients overcome the effects of stroke and other serious illness or injury.   Click here to read the article
